PROGRAMS

MENTORING AND CHANGING THE

NEXT GENERATION

Familie Tiez launched its Mentoring program September 10, 2012. Mentoring programs enrich children’s lives; helps meet their need for positive adult contact and provide one-on-one support and advocacy. Most notably, positive mentoring experiences have proven to be an effective tool to help youth overcome the risk factors that can lead to problems such as educational failure, dropping out of school and involvement in delinquent activities, including gang crime and drug abuse. This program is free of charge to families and open to children ages 5-17.  Volunteer mentors meet with the mentees Mon- Fri 3:30-5:30; there will also be a monthly field trip. A meal/snack will be served, children will then be tutored or assisted in completing homework assignments; 30 minutes has been allotted for this. After tutoring and homework help, children will break up into groups and enjoy the activities offered. Activity stations and a schedule will be listed below; this time will also be used for mentors to talk to the mentees/children one on one or in small groups. Prior to dismissal all of the mentees will be brought back together for a large group discussion. Each month a topic will be chosen and this is what will be discussed during this session, there are times when a speaker will also be invited to come in and speak on the monthly topic.
